A playful, abstract series inspired by children’s wooden blocks.

Taking classical paintings of the Renaissance as a reference point, the pure geometric forms and primary colours of these familiar childhood toys have been rendered with a distinct chiaroscuro style.

Depicting these normally 3-dimensional objects in a flattened 2D form places an emphasis on their bold, graphic quality. Through careful arrangement the scenes a filled with a sense of drama and tension.
